Cameroon's Silent Disease

CAMEROON'S SILENT DISEASE

One of the greatest tragedies in Cameroon is that too many of us have become more interested in bad news than good news.

A scandal travels faster than a success story. A prison sentence attracts more attention than a graduation. A failure receives more applause than an achievement. We gather quickly to discuss who has fallen, but disappear when it is time to help someone rise.

A nation cannot be built by people who celebrate each other's wounds.

The cure begins with us.

Let us learn to promote success as passionately as we spread rumors. Let us encourage talent instead of attacking it. Let us celebrate builders, innovators, entrepreneurs, workers, students, and dreamers. Let us become a people who find joy in lifting others rather than watching them fall.

The day Cameroonians become happier about each other's progress than each other's problems, the rebuilding of Cameroon will have already begun.

A country rises when its people learn that another person's success is not their loss—it is proof that success is possible for all.
